Boca Grande Island Drivers Beware!

Folks visiting Boca Grande Island (or living there, for that matter!) need to take heed if they are off of the paved roads and onto the crushed-shell side streets. The manhole covers on some of these streets are just lurking there waiting to cause you a lot of grief.

Note the manhole cover in the lower left in the photo. It may look harmless, but it is sticking up enough, due to erosion and tamping down, to make contact with the underside of cars as they drive over. I shot this yesterday while rescuing one of our commercial clients who had accidentally driven over one and knocked a big hole in the oil pan. That dark streak leading away from the cover is the contents of the oil pan. They stopped just around the corner to await my arrival.
